Product Description
Module One: Forecasting, Planning, Throughput and Quality
Planning and forecasting are two of the most important skills for any manager. This module takes you through the concept of planning, plus provides you with tools and templates to be able to plan effectively for your team.
As a manager, you will have a rough idea of the trends that affect the workload of your business. Forecasting and planning puts some science around these trends and takes the guess work out of the decision making process when deciding what to do in the future. Being able to accurately manage your staff numbers to match workloads will give you more flexibility to offer leave and training, which themselves can be great ways to boost morale in your team.
But how to plan well? This module provides you with some suggested templates that you can use to build effective plans, and takes you through how to construct them and more importantly, act on them – tried and tested templates that have already worked for hundreds of managers.
In addition, this module introduces quality measurement and how it is essential to your team’s balance scorecard, plus the concept of ‘throughput’ – a key Enlighten Excellence metric.
Module Two: The Importance Of Understanding Lost Time
The concept of lost time and how to remove it underpins the entire Enlighten Excellence methodology. This module takes you through a more detailed look at the types of lost time experienced by business, and provides tips on how to manage and remove them.
Nobody is immune to the curse of lost time. It is in every business, experienced by every person at one point or another. How much you know about the lost time your business experiences is the important thing, because unless you know it’s happening, you will never be able to remove it. Why can one person produce so much more work than another? How can the same person be so productive on one day and then not so much on another? Is a process inefficient because of technology, or could it actually be something far simpler and easier to fix, if only you knew about it?
This module delves deeper into the types of lost time your business might be experiencing, and provides some tips and tricks to help you measure, identify and remove it.
Module Three: Target Setting
How you set and communicate targets is as important as the targets themselves. Simply having targets will improve the performance of your team – but how to set them, when and for what?
Setting targets can be a daunting process. What measures should you set targets for? What is the right target to encourage and motivate your team, without it seeming unachievable? And how clearly do targets need to be defined in order for them to be understood? You get targets from your manager, but how do you translate these down so that your team can help you achieve them?
The Target Setting module explores how you can construct targets and, more importantly, how you can communicate those targets in order to get the absolute best out of your team. It then moves on to look at communication techniques in more detail, plus information on skills and load balancing and planning for the future – when you see your targets being met.
Duration
Do it in your own time at your own speed. We recommend that you don’t go too quickly. Of course you can log in and out and return to the place you left off. Think about each section and maybe discuss with your colleagues / manager / partner / friends. If you’re in a big hurry you could do the program in an hour or so.
When you finish
There’s a set of questions at the end that let you check that you have a good grasp of the theory and how to put it into practice. You’ll need to complete these to complete the course. Then you’ll be able to enrol in other programs designed for people who are using the basic ideas and want more.
Recognition
When you successfully complete the Enlighten Foundation program, not only will you feel full of new skills and ideas to try out in your workplace, you also get a Statement of Completion. Very handy for when you apply for that new role in your company – or another..
